Michael Anthony Bracy

Michael Anthony Bracy, 70, passed away at his home in Woodburn, Oregon, on August 25, 2026, just one day after marking his 70th birthday. Born in El Paso, Texas, on August 24, 1956, to Floyd Walter Bracy and Verna May (Robinson) Bracy, Michael lived a life defined by quiet strength, profound service, and an unrelenting curiosity about the world around him.

A soldier’s soldier, Michael retired as a Sergeant First Class (E-7) after an honorable career in the Regular Army. A paratrooper who completed the Airborne Course and the rigorous 23-week Special Forces Qualification Course, he brought exceptional discipline, razor-sharp precision, and tactical leadership to every mission. Among his military decorations, he was awarded the Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, four Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Service Ribbons, and an Expert qualification badge. Following his military retirement, he continued his life’s mission of service by dedicating over two decades of civilian work to the Department of Veterans Affairs, steadfastly caring for his fellow brothers- and sisters-in-arms.

Beyond his uniform, Michael possessed a brilliant, self-driven mind. He earned his bachelor’s degree and mastered the complexities of enterprise computer systems, attaining the highest professional certifications in Unix/Linux and Microsoft server technology. He remained endlessly fascinated by science, stayed ahead of emerging tech, enjoyed mission-based PC gaming, and traveled widely both during his military career and throughout retirement.

Michael found true peace and freedom on two wheels, whether cruising the Pacific Northwest open air on his Harley-Davidson Road Glide with sidecar or taking out his Iron 883. He was a disciplined marksman with rifles and handguns, an avid reader, and a man of deep, unassuming integrity. Michael never sought the spotlight; he offered sage guidance whenever someone asked, and routinely lent a helping hand to anyone in need without ever looking for credit.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Verna Bracy. He is survived by his proud and loving son, Jonathan Bracy of Clackamas, Oregon, who carries forward his father’s sharp intellect, independent spirit, and quiet devotion to doing what is right, alongside lifelong comrades and dear friends who were like family.

A public visitation and viewing will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM. A formal committal service with full U.S. Army military honors at Willamette National Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
